How To Get A Golden Tan Using Self Tanning Spray Kits

By Haywood Hunter

Sunbathing used to be the only way to get a tan, but now it is an unpopular choice. The reason behind the decline is due to the discovered risk of skin cancer from sun exposure. Since it was learned that sun exposure has risks, products for self tanning have emerged. These products include lotions, creams, gels and self tanning spray kits. Self tanning spray kits have skyrocketed to being among the most popular choices for tanning. The cost is low, the instructions are easy and the results are professional looking.

Dihydroxyacetone is the chemical element in tanning formulas that creates the tan. It is special because it reacts when introduced to aminos in the skin. This reaction is how the tan is achieved. Dihydroxyacetone has been thoroughly evaluated by the FDA and given their approval of safety. No significant effects from it's use have occurred in studies, making it much safer to use than exposing the skin to the sun or bulbs in a tanning bed.

Self tanning spray kits are simple enough to use that even the first time user can achieve a flawless application. A few simple tips can be followed to prevent any unwanted looks. This tips do not require any special equipment.

Before self tanning spray kits are used, the skin should be tested. Follow the directions and apply to a small patch of skin. A waiting period of 24 hours should pass, to insure no reaction is going to occur. This can also help determine how effective the product is.

Tanning is more effective when any dead skin has been removed from the body first. A quick exfoliation treatment will take care of this. When tanners are applied over dead skin, they become patchy. Applying these products on fresh skin, however, allows the tanner to be absorbed better and the tan lasts a much longer time.

The skin should also be moisturized after exfoliation. Moisturizer should be added a couple of hours before using self tanning spray kits. This is so it has time to soften the skin.

Users should choose dark clothing to wear when using self tanning spray kits. Often, self tanning spray kits can stain clothing. Darker colors won't show any stains as prominently as light colors.

Gloves are also useful, when using self tanning spray kits. This prevents the hands from becoming unnaturally colored during the application process. If gloves are not used, hands should be washed immediately, to prevent the color from becoming to dark.

When using self tanning spray kits, application should be done evenly. A towel near by can be used for any drips so they can be wiped away before drying. This is important for preventing a need to reapply.

No movement should occur for a minute after self tanning spray kits are applied. Joints can rub and causes patches if movement takes places before drying is complete. This can mean the whole application might need to be redone.

Even though self tanning spray kits usually contain an added SPF protection, sunscreen should still be applied any time the skin will be exposed to the sun. SPF can wear off quickly in this products. It is always best to add an extra layer of protection, just in case.
