Things You Need To Do Before And After Putting On Your Favorite Suntan Lotion

By Haywodo Hunter

Indoor tanning allows you to sport a lovely and healthy glow that makes you look like you just spent several minutes baking under the sun. This is especially true if the fake suntan lotion used is the best of the bunch. Other than opting for one of the best-selling UV-free tanners on the market, it's very important to carry out certain things before and after its application.

Cleaning the skin has to be done before you apply the sunless tanner. The most important ingredient used called DHA can be absorbed better if your skin is free of any dirt and grime. That is why before you grab the bottle of your preferred tanner and apply its contents all over your body, make sure that you just stepped foot outside the shower.

Exfoliating is another important thing that you should do. This process has to be done with the use of a scrub, loofah or sponge while you are in the shower. If you have the budget for a bottle of an exfoliating shower gel, it's a good idea to buy one. You can be sure that it will work best with the UV-free tanner of your choice because it contains no oily components.

Shaving the skin helps keep a mottled effect at bay. This pre-indoor tanning procedure is best done right after taking a shower. Without removing those unwanted facial and body hair strands, the lotion you apply may only collect around them and cause those areas to end up darker. If you prefer waxing over shaving, make sure to have it done a day ahead.

Grab a bottle of your daily moisturizer and apply some of it on your knees and elbows. This helps keep these parts from sporting a deeper hue as they tend to soak up more DHA due to their dryness and texture. You may also smear moisturizer on your fingernails especially if you don't plan on putting on latex gloves or barrier cream while applying the UV-free tanner.

After you are done spreading the product all over, ensure that it remains on your skin for the next 6 to 8 hours. Naturally, this means that you have to steer clear of taking a shower just to remove that fishy smell that DHA tends to emit while it is doing its job. It's also important to avoid engaging in any physical activity that can cause you to sweat profusely.

Keeping your skin hydrated once the expected color appears is a good idea. Doing this helps slow down the exfoliation of your skin's topmost layer, keeping the golden brown color around for as long as a week. Grab the bottle of your favorite hand and body moisturizing lotion as often as possible and use it all over to keep the lovely color intact.

Once you see that the color is no longer as intense as before, exfoliate when you take a shower. This eliminates those unwanted dead skin cells that can leave the fake tan looking blotchy. Polishing the skin in the shower once again is a good idea most especially if you are planning on reapplying the UV-free tanner in order to revivify the golden brown color.
